VietNamNet Bridge – The Korea Culture Centre will exhibit 60 oil paintings and drawings by famous painter Bui Xuan Phai from March 14 to 22 to commemorate Phai’s 20th death anniversary.
Bui Xuan Phai (1920-1988) is famous for paintings of Hanoi’s Old Quarter, the daily life of Vietnamese people and cheo, Vietnamese traditional opera. He was posthumously awarded the Ho Chi Minh prize in 1996, the highest prize in Vietnam. A painting about Hanoi Old Quarter by Bui Xuan Phai
The 60 works on display at the Korean Culture Centre in Hanoi were collected by Nguyen Manh Phuc from among the late painter’s friends. The paintings are of Hanoi’s streets, cheo stage, portraits of Phai’s friends; some of the drawings were published in newspapers.
The exhibition is opened to help painting lovers commemorate the life and career of Bui Xuan Phai, the greatest painter in Vietnamese modern art, and strengthen art exchanges between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK).
